This session is specifically for children who will start school next September. Activities are planned to extend the individual child’s development and concentration, particularly focusing on pre-reading and pre-number skills. The children also enjoy French lessons with a teacher from La Jolie Ronde and Playball with a qualified coach. In the summer term children will visit their future school once or twice and we do encourage the local Reception teaching staff to visit pre-school to meet the children, read stories and lead activities. This has proved a very successful arrangement for helping children to settle easily when they start at primary school. A morning at pre-school begins with the children having free access to a variety of resources from our learning areas including; · creative · mathematical · construction · small world · graphic · fine motor · knowledge and understanding of the world · role-play · library · outside area. Staff support children in their play with appropriate involvement to stimulate and develop their experiences. During their free play session children and staff share a healthy snack and drink together in small groups. The children help tidy away and then take part in some form of physical education before story time. For the last part of the session activities include: · music and singing with Fiddlesticks · bats and balls · climbing frame and tunnels · parachute games · bikes and other ride-on toys · dance and drama (occasions with a qualified dance teacher) · show and tell |
